#USMC--The Commandant's Cellphone Contagion--WHAT'S A FOXHOLE ANYWAY..??

TO ROSSI
FROM JC
SUBJ SANDBAG DETAIL...

(DUONGSON2,THE VILLE) --  Too much time on his (her) hands, that's what the Marine has today. If he (she) has time to fidget with the phone, there is time for guard duty, fire watch, inspections, policing the compound, and everyone's favorite, mess duty. Or maybe all of them at the same time, like the good old days during the transition from the Old Corps to the New Corps.

Digging foxholes was the easiest part of field duty. Try going out on a ship on mess duty, chopping carrots fourteen hours a day, feeding the battalion on the ship, including all the sailors. Then load all the field stoves onto helicopters for a beach landing where the stoves are set up to feed the battalion at 0530 when it makes a beach assault. Find time to text home in the middle of that maneuver.

Out on Hill 55 in Dodge City territory south of Danang, one could get lucky and get radio jeep duty, set up a relay out to the operations on Go Noi Island. At night, patch in to DaNang radio station, listen to Back In The World music and watch the flares go up over the island all night.

Up north along the DMZ, there were no cellphones. But there were offloaded radio vans in Dong Ha. Spend all day filling sandbags around the van, out in 100 degree heat and by sundown, camp out inside, air conditioned, tune in Okinawa and a patch through to a Hawaii rock and roll radio station. Who needed a cell phone there?

Yes Sir, the General has left out some of the finer details of duty without a CELLPHONE.

DAN RATHER-- Showdown Over Hillary - Trump---- CLINTON FAVE FLICK--"HIGH NOON"--

TO YAZMINA
FROM YESENIA
SUBJ DO NOT FORSAKE ME--

(BLACK ROCK)-- Now we are all wondering if Danbo was called in for a showdown with the opposition--

Dan Rather Gushes Over Clinton, Hillary.
WASHINGTON, Reuter - President Clinton, under fire recently from the Washington press corps, got a vote of confidence Thursday from an unlikely source: CBS anchorman Dan Rather. Rather, who has tangled publicly with other presidents -- notably Clinton's predecessor George Bush -- positively gushed over Clinton and his wife during a telephone hookup from the White House Rose Garden with Clinton and CBS affiliates. Noting that he and CBS correspon-. dent Connie Chung would soon be spar-
ing the network's evening anchor desk, Rather told the president: "If we can be one one-hundredth as great as you and Hillary Rodham Clinton have been to-gether in the White House, we'd take it right now and walk away winners." Rather threatened Clinton with a tough question, but this turned out to be an inquiry on what his favorite televi-sion programs were. Clinton admitted to "channel-surfing" late at night, trolling for news, sports and old movies. The Gary Cooper clas-sic "High Noon" is his favonte film, Clinton said.

DAN RATHER--Before Dan Went to the Front Desk--BY JC LANGELLE (C) 2003

BEFORE DAN WENT TO THE FRONT DESK--(c) 2003

Before Dan went to the front desk, he went to the front lines,
Out where it floods and the sun never shines.
We see Dan on the evening news,
reporting stuff brought in by the crews. Never do we stop
                  to think
whether Dan was ever on the brink.
But long ago when Dan was young,
when he was still a hero unsung,
he was out reporting on floods and war
and who they were letting into the store.
                  The Chicago '68 convention
was like something from another dimension.
That's where Dan withstood a slug
from someone Walter called a "thug".
But now Dan's sitting there in prime time,
doing stories on drugs and crime.
So  remember where he got his roots,
out there licking someone else's boots.
Until he got a chance to be anchorman,
He was just another run-of-the-mill Dan.

MCCAIN TRUMP-- GOP Deserters Running From the Enemy--THE CAINE MUTINY & JOSE FERRER

TO ROSSI
FROM CPL LEDESMA
SUBJ  PVT TURK DOWDELL'S PERIMETER WATCH

(MAMASANS HOOTCH)-- Allegiance used to mean something among allies; wearing the same uniform, those with common interests and especially aligned to the same political party. That's just stuff for the movies.

In real life, when the allies don't get their way, they revolt, turn their backs on their candidate, call him names and take cheap shots at him in the media.

The candidate in question is a newcomer to the low-brow, backstabbing, walk-all-over-your-friends world of lawmakers. They are trained that way at Harvard, at Yale; they are taught to rob, cheat, steal and lie to get to the top, there is no other way. Those that don't do it end up dropping out of legal practice, alcoholic, drug addicts, mental cases.  There's one in every town. Those that do it are sent to Washington, to Capitol Hill and to the White House. Those are the rules of the trade.

If someone comes along and takes away the club rules, he is demonized, not just by the enemy, but by the allies, his so-called soldiers-in-arms, and they know who they are.

There is one that hasn't betrayed the candidate, one who at the beginning received the most criticism, the one who wasn't considered a "war hero" because he spent the entire conflict in an enemy prison camp.  But that one particular soldier, the ally, stuck to an obsolete set of rules, "close ranks" on the enemy, it was the only way to fight. The coward runs, drops his rifle, calls the commanding officer incompetent, crazy, apes the enemy's  accusations.

In "The Caine Mutiny" (1954), Bogart's lawyer (Jose Ferrer) has this to say about the Exec--

"Queeg came to you guys to help and you turned him down..."
"If you would have given him the loyalty  he needed..."

You work with the captain cause he's got the job or you're no good....

MCCAIN TRUMP--Election in Trouble?--BOMB LIBYA, DECONFLICTION VS DECONFLECTION

TO ROSSI
FROM PVT JC
SUBJ PERIMETER WATCH, DUONG SON 2

(MAMASANS HOOTCH)-- We've seen it before, in the past. If something doesn't go right for the administration, it falls back on a tried and true strategy, drop a bunch of bombs somewhere.

The recent air campaign in Sirte, Libya is yet another example of this strategy. It all started on the convention floor in Philadelphia when the father of a US soldier, of Muslim background, was killed in combat for stepping in front of a taxi loaded with TNT. The father immediately demonized the Republican candidate as if he had something to do with his son's death. Negative.

It was the Democratic candidate, who, as a Senator, voted for the war that the son was killed in. Her excuse? She was lied to by the President; something about WMDs, anthrax, yellowcake and incubators. The dictator was training terrorists and a whole list of other stuff, she bought into it. All of that has nothing to do with the fact that the GOP candidate didn't even have a vote in the matter, but that didn't stop Pop from trashing him on national television. What happened was what nobody expected.

The candidate defended himself against the accusations in a reminder that there are some people left in the world who have self-esteem and care about their image, no matter how embellished and grandiose it may be.  The Muslim dad speech backfired and the White House phones began to ring, calling it cheap, bordering on paying ransom to the Iranians.

That called for, not deconfliction, but deconflection.  Run an aerial campaign somewhere and deflect the criticism, show the world the administration really doesn't let the Muslims, not even the Arabs, run the White House. Unfortunately, once again, the unilateral burden of responsibility for the campaign of deconflection fell on the US military. The target, once again, what the White House only recently regretted doing, was a mini-Odyssey Dawn.  By virtue of any standards, a very mini.

There were 200 Tomahawk missiles fired at the opening of Odyssey Dawn to boot the Libyan regime. It was done  without authorization,  through the UN, with the current Democratic candidate leading the charge in Paris. Today, that has allowed the regime in the Oval Office a  "trump" card to be played anytime things go bad for the Democratic candidate. At the expense of the Libyans, and the city of Sirte, which is already nothing more than a heap of rubble, with terrorists selling chickens in the street and the rest of them on the road to more profitable jihad campaigns.

MCCAIN TRUMP--What's a "Muslim Veteran" Anyway?-- POLITICS OF DISCRIMINATION

TO PVT JC
FROM ROSSI
SUBJ POT SHACK DUTY, H&S PERIMETER--

(MAMASAN'S HOOTCH)--There is a new trend in journalism to separate the veterans into various discrimination groups. Take, for instance,  a report in USA Today about a new action group that dropped by Senator McCain's office with a box full of signatures urging the war hero to dump the GOP candidate for the White House--

----------------------------------------------
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/08/04/mccain-urged-withdraw-support-trumps-presidential-bid/88204060/

Before that, six veterans, including a Muslim veteran from McCain’s home state of Arizona, praised the former Vietnam prisoner of war as “courageous” and a “man of honor” in pleading with him to reject Trump.

-------------------------------------------------

This is an extension of the big-deal flap between the candidate and the Muslim dad who's son had been killed in a war that the Democratic candidate endorsed.

Now the media finds it convenient to separate Muslim war heroes from the rest of the bunch, as if they had contributed more to the field operations, command and control, or other matters. For some reason, "Muslim veterans" are more important than plain old, Oklahoma bred kids who could barely shave and found themselves over in Fallujah pinned down by sniper fire in a cemetery.

The trend is an offshoot of the media itself, where the rank and file is  constantly bashing each other for sexual harassment, gender inequality,  racial divisiveness,  and  lifestyle preference. That makes it  acceptable to pit one veteran against the other according to his background, ethnic origin and, or, allegiance.

Not too long ago, a Muslim soldier shot up a Texas army base. Was he immediately condemned by the media? Negative. It was the same old Arab apology line and a trip to the shrink to see just exactly what the problem was.  A bad guy Muslim US Army soldier, they really exist, but don't tell the media.  All they want is the good guy Muslim US Army soldier who has more credibility when it comes to signing a petition or having the old man hop up at the convention podium and demonize the opponent.

There is no discrimination in the military, it has made strides in allowing women and gays to be a part of the fighting capacity of the United States. The current Secretary of the Army is openly gay. He was born on a hot summer day, at least hot in Viet Nam in 1968, when soldiers from all over the United States and from all walks of life were locked in a bitter struggle against a formidable enemy, in which Senator McCain sacrificed a greater part of his youth locked in the Hanoi Hilton.

If you want to discriminate, no veteran is in the same league as Senator McCain in telling him what to do, unless they have done what he has done in the service of his country.
