SUBJ PERIMETER WATCH, DUONG SON 2
(MAMASANS HOOTCH)-- We've seen it before, in the past. If something doesn't go right for the administration, it falls back on a tried and true strategy, drop a bunch of bombs somewhere.
The recent air campaign in Sirte, Libya is yet another example of this strategy. It all started on the convention floor in Philadelphia when the father of a US soldier, of Muslim background, was killed in combat for stepping in front of a taxi loaded with TNT. The father immediately demonized the Republican candidate as if he had something to do with his son's death. Negative.
It was the Democratic candidate, who, as a Senator, voted for the war that the son was killed in. Her excuse? She was lied to by the President; something about WMDs, anthrax, yellowcake and incubators. The dictator was training terrorists and a whole list of other stuff, she bought into it. All of that has nothing to do with the fact that the GOP candidate didn't even have a vote in the matter, but that didn't stop Pop from trashing him on national television. What happened was what nobody expected.
The candidate defended himself against the accusations in a reminder that there are some people left in the world who have self-esteem and care about their image, no matter how embellished and grandiose it may be. The Muslim dad speech backfired and the White House phones began to ring, calling it cheap, bordering on paying ransom to the Iranians.
That called for, not deconfliction, but deconflection. Run an aerial campaign somewhere and deflect the criticism, show the world the administration really doesn't let the Muslims, not even the Arabs, run the White House. Unfortunately, once again, the unilateral burden of responsibility for the campaign of deconflection fell on the US military. The target, once again, what the White House only recently regretted doing, was a mini-Odyssey Dawn. By virtue of any standards, a very mini.
There were 200 Tomahawk missiles fired at the opening of Odyssey Dawn to boot the Libyan regime. It was done without authorization, through the UN, with the current Democratic candidate leading the charge in Paris. Today, that has allowed the regime in the Oval Office a "trump" card to be played anytime things go bad for the Democratic candidate. At the expense of the Libyans, and the city of Sirte, which is already nothing more than a heap of rubble, with terrorists selling chickens in the street and the rest of them on the road to more profitable jihad campaigns.
